Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Paint Sprayer to join our Newport manufacturing team. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for delivering high-quality paint finishes on trains and trams while supporting and developing a team of Paint Sprayers. You will oversee the end-to-end painting process, maintain the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance, and play a key role in driving continuous improvement across the paint operation
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out high-quality spray painting on trains and trams, ensuring work meets customer, quality and specification requirements.
- Lead and support a team of Paint Sprayers, providing guidance, coaching and on-the-job training.
- Manage painting activities from preparation through to final finish, ensuring processes are followed and standards maintained.
- Oversee paint stores, including materials management, stock control and ordering.
- Conduct quality inspections and ensure all work meets CAF standards.
- Work closely with Production Managers and Team Leaders to deliver projects safely, on time and to budget.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company procedures and PPE requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality and reduce waste

- Maintain accurate records and keep managers and team members updated on progress.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures, carrying out quality checks where required.
- Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Participate in training and team meetings to support ongoing development.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold company values, policies and equal opportunities commitments.
- Act as a positive ambassador for CAF and contribute to a culture of safety, quality and collaboration
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Significant experience in industrial paint spraying, ideally in a senior or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of spray-painting techniques, equipment and surface preparation.
- Experience leading and mentoring teams to deliver high-quality results.
- Knowledge of stock control and materials management.
- Strong understanding of quality standards, health & safety requirements and continuous improvement principles.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Experience within the rail industry or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and compliance processes.
- Experience with electrostatic painting and other advanced spray-painting techniques.
