What will be your role in the company?

As a qualified and experienced professional, the Production Engineer will operate with a high degree of autonomy. The primary duties of the Production Engineer will focus on, but not be limited to, excelling in troubleshooting rolling stock and contributing to the continuous improvement of fleet reliability and availability. This position is highly technical and hands-on, requiring solid technical qualifications and the ability to work physically with the vehicles. Strong interpersonal skills are also essential.

The Lead Production Engineer will work closely with the Project Management, Engineering, Materials, and Production teams, as well as the LEO (Líder de Excelencia Operativa, i.e., Operational Excellence Leader).

Your daily duties will include:

• In coordination with the on-duty Production Manager, assist in the daily review of in-service failures to ensure vehicle availability, and identify and propose mitigations and solutions, both technical and organizational, to Project Management to increase depot capacity.
• Early identification of ongoing or potential Epidemic/Systematic Failures and proposal of mitigation measures and solutions (campaigns, modifications, etc.) in coordination with the Project Engineering Team, and CAF Spain DIP coordinator.
• Provide continuous guidance and knowledge transfer to other on-duty technical staff in coordination with the on-duty Production Manager.
• Regularly review and thoroughly comprehend all WECRs and ECRs related to the project to immediately identify if a failure is related to a known issue.
• In coordination with the on-duty Production Manager, monitor and support the quality of corrective interventions carried out during the shift to minimize repetitive failures.
• Ensure full alignment with the Project LEO (Líder de Excelencia Operativa), providing all required inputs and supporting any improvement initiatives within the context of the RSNEXT program or future programs.
• Maintain close cooperation with the Chester Leadmind Hub.
• Provide specific hands-on technical training to other technical staff as required by Project Management.
• Participate in discussions with OEMs related to failure attribution, cost allocation, or potential solutions for any issue affecting the safety, reliability, or availability of the system, as requested by Project Management.
• Ensure high quality in the corrective GMAO imputations for which the Production Engineer is responsible, to ensure proper cost allocation, especially but not limited to, failures occurring in equipment under warranty during their shift. This requires a deep understanding of the processes related to GMAO secondary imputations and Supplier Claims.
• Primarily review defective material to determine if NCR processing is necessary or if the material should be scrapped.
• Utilize GMAO, LeadMind, or other data sources to produce detailed trend analysis of vehicle system and component failures to support the project.

What salary will you be paid for this role?

As a Real Living Wage Employer, we are proud to pay competitively at CAF. For this role you will be offered a salary in the region of £70,000 per annum.

What will make you successful in this position?

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• Candidates must possess an official technical qualification with a minimum of Level 3 in an engineering related discipline. Higher Level qualifications will be especially valued.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in rolling stock troubleshooting.
• Experience in testing and commissioning of rolling stock is highly appreciated.
• Direct contact with OEMs in the context of technical problem resolution.
• Proficiency in using various diagnostic software related to onboard equipment.
• Skilled in writing and critically analysing technical reports, particularly Failure Analysis Reports.
• Valid Driver’s Licence
