We are currently seeking a HSEQ Officer is to maintain and protect health, safety, environment and quality standards within CAF in accordance with current legislation and CAF standards.
Fundamental roles and responsibilities which are inherent to the position:
- Assists staff to monitor compliance to regulations, standards, policies and procedures to achieve and retain relevant ISO accreditation in Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
- Coordinates all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental training in conjunction with HR.
- Ensure Health, Safety Quality and Environment Policies and Procedures are understood by all company employees.
- Provide guidance to ensure statutory obligations are met (Electricity Act, HSE Act, RMA, Environmental, Industry standards and codes of practice, etc.)
- Conduct audits and regular inspections of both internal operating procedures and external sub-contractors to ensure compliance with Company policies.
- Carry out other reasonable tasks and duties as requested by management.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with all Australians health and safety, quality and environmental legislative requirements.
- Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner in line with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality consciousness. Advise management of any changes in materials, plant or processes which may impact on safety, quality or the environment, as well as any improvements that could advance CAF's quality and environmental performance.
Health and Safety
Responsible for the Health and Safety-related aspects of a team of technical and non-technical personnel within the Australian rolling stock depots. Such as:
- Continue to develop and maintain best practice policies, processes and systems to support the effective management of health and safety across the company, and ensure all managers have available to them appropriate and effective systems, advice, processes, training and coaching to ensure their health and safety obligations are fulfilled.
- Continue to implement and maintain programmes associated with Risk Management, Health and Safety, Resource Management and other legislative requirements related to the Rail industry.
- Manage process to achieve and retain WSMP audit standards with ACC to Tertiary level.
- Manage Health and Safety focused site induction for all new employees and contractors, including emergency procedures and incident/hazard identification processes in conjunction with HR Team.
- Investigating safety related incidents and providing recommendations.
- Assist with business continuity and emergency preparedness.
- Actively participate in promoting health and safety in the workplace and encouraging others to do the same. Lead health and safety initiatives, such as workplace inspections, hazard identification and others as required.
Environmental and Quality
Ensuring quality assurance and environmental planning for the CAF Maintenance Depots in Australia. Such as:
- Full responsibility for Quality Management System, Integrated Management System (IMS) and regulatory requirements.
- Continue to develop and maintain the environment for continual quality improvement. Organises quality initiatives such as client satisfaction, reporting and peer reviews, etc.
- Manage all quality improvement matters. Works with staff to educate and facilitate quality assurance program. Ensures accreditation standards are met.
- Proactively identifies and address quality and compliance issues, such as violation of contracts, monitoring of poor performance indicators, etc.
- Continue to develop and utilises electronic methods of data collection. Gathers, processes and analyses data to create reports, charts and graphs.
- Continue to develop and implement environmental policies and practices that ensure corporate sustainable development.
- Setting organisational sustainability targets, and developing plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery.
- Auditing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information.
Required profile
Education: Degree qualified in related field or equivalent years’ experience.
Work Experience: Previous experience in a similar role including experience of audits and strong knowledge of audit process.

- In-depth understanding of AU Health and Safety legislation, the ability to lead and influence at all levels of the organisation and a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
- Superior written, personal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Australian workplace legislation.
- Hazard and risk management experience.
- A strong focus on quality and procedural accuracy.
- A high level of self-motivation.
- Experience of training delivery.
