Mission of the position

The Senior Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and coordinating day-to-day operations across multiple teams to ensure production runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently. This includes maintaining high standards of health and safety, ensuring product and process quality, achieving production targets on time, and motivating and developing team members.

 

In addition to leading their own team(s), the Senior Team Leader acts as the bridge between Team Leaders and the Manufacturing Production Manager (MPM) providing leadership support, operational oversight, and ensuring clear communication across functions. The role also includes covering for the MPM during periods of absence, acting as the primary point of contact for unit handovers to Test, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the production line.

Functions and responsibilities

The Senior Team Leader oversees daily operations across multiple production teams, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. They act as a key link between Team Leaders and the Manufacturing Production Manager (MPM), stepping in during MPM absences and coordinating unit handovers to the Test department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate assembly teams, ensuring targets and standards are met.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor performance, allocate resources, and optimize workflow.
  • Conduct briefings, training, and competency assessments.
  • Liaise with other departments (Quality, Test, Planning, Engineering).
  • Update production KPIs and Tier boards.
  • Support incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Represent MPM in meetings and decision-making.

Training required

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct quality checks and maintain accurate records.

 

Required professional experience

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent; willing to work towards NVQ Level 4.
  • ILM Level 3 or similar leadership qualification.
  • IOSH or equivalent health & safety certification.
  • Experience in team leadership within manufacturing or engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of plant operations and lean tools.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • First Aid and Fire Marshal qualifications.

Desirable:

  • Qualified Assessor / Train the Trainer.
  • Experience in a similar senior role.
