The Train General Study Engineer is the technical specialist for defining the Train Architecture along with Vehicle Gauge, Weight, vehicle negotiations on curve for the Railway Vehicle. He/she is also responsible of delivering the engineering work on time, quality and within the cost throughout the project lifecycle.

He or she will carry out project design activities to specify and integrate the Train General Study in a project, including requirements management, specification, system integration, customer design review process, problem solving during production activities, testing and commissioning… up to the completion of verification and validation of the design.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges

• Defining the Train Architecture
• Generating the new solutions for train model\architecture based on the requirements.
• Generation of Virtual mock-ups.
• Preparation of Gauge profiles and knowledge of relevant gauging standards (e.g. EN 15273).
• Responsible for interfaces with infrastructure for gauging.
• Study of Gauge profile and knowledge to reuse of existing profiles for the project.
• Responsible for weight management of train.
• Preparation of weight calculations and defining the weight of the trains.
• Study of curve simulation and calculations related to the movement and clearances of train on curves.
• Knowledge of Vehicle dynamics.
• Defining and carrying out Train Level Test.  

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master´s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

• Experience (>3 years) in the design and integration of complex Train General Studies for Gauging Weighing, vehicle curve negotiation, interface with infrastructure preferable in the rolling stock or similar sector, including the ability to work in a collaborative and multicultural team.

Skills & Competencies

• An excellent knowledge of Vehicle dynamics and Train Architecture.
• Ability to prepare weighting calculations, Gauging calculations.
• Ability to translate market/customer requirements in product requirements and technical solutions and be able to develop and integrate complex systems.
• Knowledge and awareness of product lifecycle (specification, procurement, integration, manufacture, use, maintain, remove and dispose).
• System architectural and system integration understanding.
• Should be familiar with tools like DOORS, 3DExperience/Catia, Autocad and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work in a high-level collaborative multicultural environment and promoting a teamwork mentality.
• Client-oriented. Knowledge, awareness and interest in the Client (internal and/or external) needs.
• Results-oriented. Pro-active in the role and ability to focus activities towards achieving objectives.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skill in English, both verbal and written. German/French and/or Spanish will be valuable.

Other requirements

• Ability for frequent national and/or international travelling as per project needs.
