What will be your role in the company?
The Engineering Manager is responsible for all technical aspects of the CAF UK Overhaul Facility, including engineering oversight of bogies, wheelsets, gearboxes, couplers, HVAC, and powerpacks overhauls. The role is critical to ensuring the facility meets performance KPIs related to safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability. The Engineering Manager will lead the technical team, overseeing engineering processes, maintenance standards, and production support.
Initially, the role will focus on supporting the facility setup, including layout reviews, equipment specification, procedure development, and coordination with CAF Group stakeholders to align with best practices. Post-setup, the Engineering Manager will shift to driving operational excellence, continuous improvement, and supporting daily overhaul activities.
On a day-to-day basis, the work will involve leading the technical team, reviewing procedures and BOMs, supporting production troubleshooting, conducting performance analysis, and liaising with other CAF UK and international teams. The candidate will work closely with the Senior Production Manager and Senior Materials Manager, ensuring alignment across planning, execution, and resource management.
What will make you successful in this position?
To succeed in this role you will need:
- Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher. Exceptionally HNC/D (level 4/5) in Engineering with strong and relevant experience may also be considered.
- Strong experience in an engineering environment, preferably within the rail industry working with heavy equipment’s such as horizontal lathe, wheelset press, welding, sandblasting, overhead cranes, among others.
- Proven background in performance management, planning, and control.
- Skilled in reviewing, analysing, and authoring technical procedures.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma is highly desirable.
- Familiarity in Total Productive Maintenance and Autonomous Maintenance is desirable.
- Proficient with MS Office and capable of quickly learning new systems and platforms
