Overview
The Carshell Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the manufacturing of rail vehicle bodies, ensuring that production processes meet quality and efficiency standards. This role involves supervising and motivating a team, monitoring workflow, identifying and resolving production challenges, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. The position requires a strong technical background, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Functions and responsibilities
- Ensure timely completion of carshell manufacturing and welding processes while maintaining established quality standards.
- Monitor daily operations to ensure efficiency, proper workflow, and adherence to production schedules.
- Assist in implementing cost-effective production strategies within budget constraints.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to support efficiency and workplace safety.
- Enforce health and safety protocols in welding and manufacturing areas to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing and welding processes.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training programs focused on welding techniques and safety procedures.
- Supervise and guide production team members, providing feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Assist in recruiting and onboarding employees, ensuring proper training and adherence to company policies.
- Maintain accurate employee records related to training, performance, and safety compliance.
- Work closely with other departments, including materials supply and engineering teams, to coordinate workflow and address production challenges.
- Maintain open and consistent communication with team members and management to ensure alignment on production goals and operational priorities.
Training/eduction required
- Associate’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5 – 10 years of experience in manufacturing supervision, preferably in a welding or fabrication environment.
- Experience in production line operations and project coordination.
- Strong ability to work with and support senior stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
Qualifications/requirements
- Ability to work in a high pressure environment
- 4-6 years technical experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting.
- 5 years of experience in a supervisory, lead, foreman, etc. position
- Must be self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills essential for day to day operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Understanding oral and written Spanish highly desirable
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be flexible and willing to work all shifts
Safety requirements
- Shall report all injuries/illnesses to their supervisor that occur at work, the day of the incident
- Shall report any unsafe conditions that are identified in their respective work area to their supervisor
- Shall comply with all CAF USA safety policies, procedures, and requirements that are communicated to them, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures
- Shall wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is communicated and supplied to them
- Shall keep their respective work area clean and orderly at all times
- Shall attend all CAF USA required training as soon as possible before the start of their assigned work
- Shall NOT operate any CAF USA equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts) until certified to do so

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $70,000 to $90,000.
