Overview

The EH&S Specialist will report into the EHS Manager and ensures facility compliance with essential regulatory requirements such as OSHA and DEC standards, supporting workplace safety, reducing work-related injuries, and minimizing environmental impact. This role involves assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety and environmental programs, conducting basic audits, participating in risk assessments, and aiding in incident investigations. The EHS Specialist collaborates with other teams to support sustainability initiatives and ensures accurate documentation for EHS compliance.

Functional Description

  • Support EHS compliance through regular inspections and basic risk assessments to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Assist in delivering safety and environmental training sessions, including general safety awareness, ladder safety, and powered tool safety.
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist with corrective actions under the guidance of senior EHS personnel.
  • Maintain EHS documentation and report on safety performance metrics.
  • Support preparation for EHS audits and work with senior staff on implementing audit recommendations.
  • Aid in translating corporate EHS guidelines and regulatory requirements into practical, site-specific actions.
  • Act as a point of contact for EHS-related queries within the facility and provide support in preparing environmental permits as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, with emphasis on areas such as industrial hygiene, confined space entry, and contractor safety.
  • Assist in tracking EHS-related training and awareness initiatives across the site.

Training/Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as OSHA 30-hour or similar are a plus.
  • 2-4 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, safety, or environmental compliance preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and EHS protocols in a manufacturing environment is advantageous.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Access is a plus.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and precision in documentation and reporting.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proactive and resourceful, with a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Willingness to engage directly in tasks and support team members with hands-on assistance.

Safety Requirements

  • Shall report all injuries/illnesses to their supervisor that occur at work, the day of the incident
  • Shall report any unsafe conditions that are identified in their respective work area to their supervisor
  • Shall comply with all CAF USA safety policies, procedures, and requirements that are communicated to them, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures
  • Shall wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is communicated and supplied to them
  • Shall keep their respective work area clean and orderly at all times
  • Shall attend all CAF USA required training as soon as possible before the start of their assigned work
  • Shall NOT operate any CAF USA equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts) until certified to do so

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $60,000 to $80,000.
