What will be your role in the company?

 

The role of Project Support Engineer is to support the Performance Manager and wider project team across technical, reliability, maintenance, production and materials activities associated with the Edinburgh Trams fleet.

The role may on occasion involve some UK and Europe travel to engage with other CAF projects or suppliers.

 

Your daily duties will include:

 

  • Assist in the daily review of in-service failures and vehicle availability.
  • Regular review of defective material to establish the root cause.
  • Provide support and input to investigations of Technical Incidents and Safety Related Defects (SRDs).
  • Utilising GMAO, LeadMind or other sources of data to produce detailed trend analysis of vehicle system and component failures for inclusion in reports or review at technical meetings.
  • Attend daily, weekly, and monthly client meetings as appropriate.
  • Generate WECRs or other such business reports as required.
  • Develop relationships and processes with suppliers to ensure warranty issues are addressed expediently and corrective actions are applied.
  • Provide technical support to materials, procurement and supplier-related activities where required.
  • Identify modifications and improvement opportunities to improve fleet reliability.
  • Produce reports on modification progress as and when required.
  • Support the Engineering Change process.
  • Produce detailed technical investigative reports on significant safety and technical faults.
  • Utilise specialist measurement and monitoring equipment to aid in the diagnosis of onvehicle faults.
  •  Support the Performance Engineer and Production Manager to agree the priority of repairs,
  • modifications, and campaigns, providing supporting documentation as required.
  • Support technical training, knowledge sharing and procedural briefings for CAF, client or maintainer employees where required.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Rail Services After Sales Engineering and other Performance Engineers and Managers through CAF Rail UK.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of modification programmes, technical campaignsand fleet improvement activities.
  • Support the coordination and progression of technical issues, modifications, campaigns and operational improvement activities across Performance, Maintenance, Production andMaterials.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of technical procedures, workinstructions and operational controls.
  • Support the preparation of periodic technical and fleet performance reporting, includinginputs to the Service Quality Report (SQR).
  • Provide practical on-vehicle support for fault investigation, technical trials, modificationactivities and validation work as required.

 

What will make you successful in this position?

 

To succeed in this role you will need:

 

  • HNC/D or above in an Engineering related discipline
  • Experience in a Systems Reliability and Performance role.
  • PC literate with the ability to learn new software programmes quickly.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Experience writing technical reports.
