Rolling Stock Engineer

Job Purpose

The rolling stock engineer is responsible for executing preventive and corrective maintenance on rolling stock systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and availability during early operations. This role serves as a solid technical foundation, offering a clear pathway to supervisory and management positions following competency development and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Execution:

- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on rolling stock systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, braking, doors, and control systems.

- Diagnose faults and resolve operational issues.

- Ensure all activities comply with OEM manuals and established safety procedures.

 

  • Fault Management & Troubleshooting:

- Investigate failures and identify root causes.

- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes.

- Provide immediate technical solutions to restore service.

 

  • System Monitoring & Performance:

- Monitor the condition and performance trends of rolling stock.

- Report recurring issues and suggest improvements.

- Support reliability and availability initiatives.

 

  • Documentation & Reporting:

- Accurately record maintenance activities in the CMMS (SAP/Maximo or similar).

- Prepare fault reports, intervention reports, and technical logs.

- Maintain detailed traceability of all interventions.

 

  • Safety & Compliance:

- Adhere to all safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and environmental regulations.

- Ensure safe execution of maintenance tasks at both depot and on-line locations.

- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses.

 

  • Continuous Improvement:

- Support the shift from reactive to preventive and predictive maintenance.

- Recommend enhancements to maintenance procedures and practices.

- Participate in modification and upgrade initiatives.

 

  • Future Development:

- Engage in structured training and competency development programs.

- Assume acting supervisory or coordination roles as assigned.

- Prepare for progression into leadership roles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering from a reputable university.
  • Clear communication skills in English (speaking, reading, and writing); fluency is advantageous.

Experience

  • 3 –10 years heavy transport systems, preferably in rolling stock maintenance.
  • Preferred experience with metro or railway systems operated through CMMS.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs, control systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and train subsystems (doors, braking, traction, HVAC).
