Functional/Electrical Engineer

Overview

The Functional Engineer in CAF US will act as a technical front face with the US customers for the definition and implementation of all vehicle functionalities including train control, energy supply, information and communication, etc. Engaging customer and tender/project development needs to help the company to deliver a design that fulfills the contract on time and within budget. Work together with HQ Engineering Team, CAF USA Team and the tender/project/product activities to ensure the customer satisfaction and while achieving target metrics. 

Functions and responsibilities

•     Develop or support the definition of vehicle subsystem functionality during both the project and tender phases, in collaboration with the US Engineering Team and HQ. This includes, but is not limited to, propulsion, braking, communication, train control, lighting, and other subsystems, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and technical feasibility. 
•     Prepare project documentation and deliverables required for internal and external design reviews, including inputs from team members, suppliers, and customers, as part of the design and homologation process. 
•     Promote and apply standardized solutions across different projects and tenders. 
•     Define and execute the validation process of the train vehicle in collaboration with the US Engineering Team and HQ. This includes preparing test procedures, participating in testing activities, and verifying vehicle functionality against requirements. 
•     Plan and develop the engineering activities related to functional definition, verification and validation with the CAF US engineering Team and the Engineering Department at HQ.  
•     Conduct a dialog with the client in coordination with the Engineering Team at HQ and TPMs, regarding the implementation of the Project in time and form. 
•     Support the impact assessment (time/cost/quality) of possible risks, opportunities and variations in the project.  
•     Receive, analyze and provide first answers to comments/questions received from customer. 
•     Technical management with the final customer: documentation exchange, requirements compliance, verification and validation process. 
•     Complete de requirement management lifecycle: revision, implementation, traceability, verification & validation, closure. 
•     Participate/lead the projects and offers in order to achieve a complete functional integration of all the systems in the vehicle. 
•     Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager  

Training/education required

•     Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications Engineering  
•     Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience in railway rolling stock functional definition, either new build or refurbishment  
•     Knowledge in the US Railway sector and Approval process 
•     Knowledge in worldwide standards related with railways will be favorably considered, such as but not limited to: EN45545, EN50155, EN61373, EN50128, EN50121 

Required professional experience

•     Very good interpersonal and organizational skills, open minded, excellent abilities for teamwork, proactivity, proven level of autonomy 
•     Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory 
•     Strong IT skills with Microsoft Suite, Excel, Word, Outlook, PPT, Microsoft Project.  
•     Being familiar with tools such as DOORs, CATIA, 3DExperience, TRELLO, and Program Planner 
•     Spanish will be very favorably considered 
•     Will be sited in CAF’s Boston Engineering Site and will need to be available to travel to CAF Headquarters and along the US for the possible projects/tenders. 

Safety requirements

•     Shall report all injuries/illnesses to their supervisor that occur at work, the day of the incident 
•     Shall report any unsafe conditions that are identified in their respective work area to their supervisor 
•     Shall comply with all CAF USA safety policies, procedures, and requirements that are communicated to them, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures 
•     Shall wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is communicated and supplied to them 
•     Shall attend all CAF USA required training as soon as possible before the start of their assigned work 
•     Shall NOT operate any CAF USA equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts) until certified to do so
