Testing Engineer - Rollingstock

Mission of the position
The GVB has requested 13 additional M7 model metro units as this option was included in the contract entered with CAF in 2018, which initially envisaged the supply of 30 trains. The new vehicles will be identical to the units that have already been delivered. Just as before, these new metros need to be tested before delivery, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Each comprises 3 cars and can be coupled to form 6-car vehicles. They will also be equipped with the CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system, and capable of fully unattended train operation (GoA 4). These new metro units will replace the oldest units in the fleet, which CAF also originally supplied in the 1990s and are now at the end of their service life. Testing and warranty for the metro’s are performed in Diemen (Provincialeweg 2, 1112 XT Diemen).
The position
For our international team we are looking for a Testing Engineer with a hands-on approach to carry out the necessary tests of the equipment, such as the electronic and electrical control systems and pneumatic-mechanical equipment. In addition, the Testing Engineer coordinates the work of the local technician and facilitates the communication with the customer. The Testing Engineer is able to explain the working of technical systems to non-technicians.
You as a person
You have efficient communication skills and can work independently. You can read electrical design specifications and technical drawings and has experience in making technical reports and manuals. You work with integrity to ensure reliable work and also respects and follows safety policies and regulations. You are versatile, creative and has excellent analytical skills. In addition, you are flexible and willing to travel to other locations within Amsterdam and other countries (EU mainly) for training and testing support for long periods at a time, such as working multiple weeks or months abroad, and to work in various shifts, both during the week and weekends when is needed.
The candidate
- Has an engineering degree (bachelor level) in either Electrics, Electronics, Mechanical or Mechatronics.
- Has 3 to 5 years of experience in a comparable position in the railways, maritime, aviation or other relevant sector.
- preferably has experience with the commissioning of electrical, electronic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
- Is expected to travel and work with team members in Beasain, Spain and other EU countries when needed;
- Is stress resistant and able to work under pressure.
- Is organized, detailed, efficient and assertive.
- Is eager to learn and are challenged by solving technical issues.
- Has excellent communication skills and is fluent in English.
Compensation & Benefits
- Definite contract of 1 year with one month probation period with possibility of extension.
- Min. € 4.800,- and max. € 5.400,- (Monthly Gross) depending on background and experience
- 27 holidays and 13 roster free days (ADV) per annum, based on 40 hours per week
- Travel allowance of € 0,23 per km for max. 50 km per day
- CAF is part of the Collective Labour Agreement Metalektro
- Training for safety certifications are provided and covered by the company
- Additional social skills training, such as language classes, can be provided as per accordance with the A+O Metalektro requirements.
